US Stocks on Track to End Week Higher on Strong Earnings

US stocks were on track to close Friday on a positive note after a turbulent week, as strong earnings performances from tech titans Apple (AAPL) and Microsoft (MSFT) lifted the markets despite news of the Fed's looming policy tightening and continued geopolitical tensions in Ukraine.

The S&P 500 was 1.6% higher at 4,395.61, the Nasdaq Composite rose 2.1% to 13,626.98, reversing earlier losses and the Dow Jones Industrial Average managed to turn higher despite a wobbly session, up 1.1% to 34,520.56.

Technology led the gainers, while energy lagged.

The 10-year US Treasury yield fell 3.5 basis points to 1.78%.

West Texas Intermediate crude oil rose 0.3% to $86.90 a barrel.
