Croatia's labour demand up 10.8% y/y in Nov– think-tank

ZAGREB (Croatia), December 7 (SeeNews) - Labour demand in Croatia in November was 10.8% higher on the year, a local think-tank said.

“Despite a GDP drop in the third quarter this year, labour demand has been on the rise, and the labor market is still robust, at least when conventional advertising is concerned,” the Institute of Economics Zagreb (EIZ) said on Tuesday in a monthly report on labour demand measured by its EIZ Online Vacancy Index (OVI).

According to seasonally adjusted data, OVI index recorded a 3.2% increase in November compared to the previous month, which is the biggest monthly increase since May this year.

Croatia's economy expanded by 5.2% year-on-year in real terms in the third quarter, following annual growth of 8.7% in the second quarter and a 16.7% increase in the third quarter of last year. Seasonally adjusted gross domestic product (GDP) decreased by 0.4% in July-September compared to the previous quarter, but increased by 5.5% in real terms compared to the third quarter of last year, the country's statistical office said last month.

The biggest increase in the number of advertisements on an annual level in November was recorded for accountants, medical doctors and dentists, clerks and teachers, while the biggest drop was recorded for IT specialists, programmers, production workers and drivers.

The share of advertisements offering permanent employment reached 47.8% from 46.3% in November 2021.
