CBOT corn futures fall on export concerns

Chicago Board of Trade corn futures slipped on Friday after two days of gains, pressured by concerns about weak export demand, traders said.

  • Most-active CBOT March corn (CH3) fell 14-1/4 cents to settle at $6.46-1/4 a bushel, while front-month December corn (CZ2) lost 15 cents to settle at $6.35 a bushel.

  • On Thursday, U.S. Department of Agriculture reported weekly corn export sales of 632,700 tonnes. That compares with market expectations for 475,000 to 1.1 million tonnes.

  • Statistics Canada reported Canada's corn crop at 14.5 million tonnes, up 4% from last year.

  • Ukrainian farms had harvested 41.9 million tonnes of grain from 85% of the expected area as of Dec. 1, the agriculture ministry said.
