Dominant Smoothed Volume Pro

4 425
Smoothed Volume Pro provides a useful tool designed to provide traders with a deeper understanding of market dynamics by analyzing buy and sell volume across multiple timeframes. Unlike traditional volume indicators, this script normalizes volume data from lower timeframes to align with the current chart's timeframe, providing an apples-to-apples comparison. The result is a visual histogram representation of the dominant buy or sell activity, smoothed over 5 different periods to reflect momentum shifts and enhance clarity.

Core Methodology

1. Multi-Timeframe Volume Analysis

This indicator leverages data from five different lower timeframes, each chosen dynamically based on the current chart's timeframe. By aggregating and normalizing these granular data points, the indicator captures subtle shifts in buy and sell volume that might otherwise go unnoticed. This multi-timeframe approach allows for a more detailed and accurate representation of market activity.

2. Data Normalization

Normalization is a critical component of this indicator. It ensures that volume data from lower timeframes is scaled appropriately to match the total volume of the current chart's timeframe. This step eliminates discrepancies caused by varying time intervals, providing a more meaningful comparison of volume trends across different periods.

3. Smoothing for Momentum Representation

The indicator employs five customizable smoothing factors to smooth out noisy volume data.
Each smoothing factor is distinctly color-coded in the histogram and table for intuitive analysis, helping traders quickly identify prevailing trends.

Features and Benefits

➖Customizable Smoothing Factors: Choose from five different smoothing factors, each with its unique settings for line styles, colors, and extensions.

➖Normalized Buy and Sell Volume: Displays normalized buy and sell volumes as a percentage of total activity, aiding in quick decision-making.

➖Visual Cues: Color-coded columns and labels help identify dominant trends at a glance, with high-opacity fills for visual clarity.

➖Dynamic Table: A built-in table summarizes smoothed volume data for each smoothing factor, offering a quick overview of bullish and bearish percentages.

➖Momentum Signals: Detect significant shifts in volume momentum with visually distinct alerts for high relative volumes, including special symbols like "⚡" and "🔥."

Practical Applications

➖Identifying Market Sentiment: Quickly determine whether the market is dominated by buyers or sellers at any given moment.

➖Spotting Reversals: Use momentum shifts in smoothed volume to anticipate potential trend reversals.

➖Enhancing Entry and Exit Points: Combine this indicator with other technical tools to refine entry and exit points in your trading strategy.

Why This Indicator Stands Out

Many existing volume indicators focus solely on raw or single-timeframe data, which can be misleading or incomplete. This indicator sets itself apart by:

Utilizing multi-timeframe data to provide a holistic view of market activity.

Applying robust normalization techniques to ensure data consistency.

Offering advanced smoothing options to emphasize actionable momentum signals.

This unique combination of features makes it an indispensable tool for traders seeking to enhance their market analysis and decision-making process.

As always, by combining the Smoothed Volume Pro with other tools, traders ensure that they are not relying on a single indicator. This layered approach can reduce the likelihood of false signals and improve overall trading accuracy.

Update: 2026 Rebuild

This update is a major rebuild of Dominant Smoothed Volume Pro, focused on making the script cleaner, easier to read, and more useful in real time.

The original version plotted multiple smoothed buy/sell volume histograms on the same zero line. While powerful, that structure could make some smoothing layers visually hide behind larger ones. This rebuild introduces a new **DSV Ladder** layout that separates each smoothing length into its own fixed lane, making the relationship between short-term and longer-term volume pressure much easier to interpret.

What’s New

1. New DSV Ladder Visual Mode

The biggest change is the new **Dominant Smoothed Volume Ladder** view.

Instead of stacking all smoothing factors on top of each other, the script now separates the smoothing lengths into dedicated lanes:

* S8
* S13
* S48
* S89
* S144

Each lane shows its own normalized buy/sell pressure score. Positive readings reflect bullish volume dominance, while negative readings reflect bearish volume dominance. This makes it easier to see whether short-term and longer-term smoothed volume pressure are aligned or diverging.

2. New DSV Composite

A new DSV Composite has been added to summarize the overall dominant smoothed volume condition.

The composite blends the five smoothing lengths into one normalized oscillator:

* Positive values show bullish volume dominance.
* Negative values show bearish volume dominance.
* Stronger readings show more one-sided pressure.

This gives users a cleaner “big picture” read while the ladder lanes show the internal smoothing-factor structure.

3. Cleaner 3-LTF Engine

The lower-timeframe engine has been simplified from five lower-timeframe streams to three.

This keeps the multi-timeframe pressure concept intact while making the script leaner and more efficient. The three selected lower-timeframe streams are still normalized back to the current chart bar’s volume so the final read remains proportional to the active chart timeframe.

4. Candle Pressure Buy/Sell Split

The script now uses a candle-pressure-based buy/sell split model by default.

This estimates buy and sell pressure from candle structure and volume rather than relying only on simple close-direction logic. A legacy close-direction option remains available for users who prefer the older behavior.

5. Enhanced Visual Scaling

A new enhanced score curve helps smaller pressure shifts remain visible without changing the true score shown in the table.

The table still reports the true normalized score, while the plotted lanes can visually boost smaller movements so subtle shifts in pressure are easier to see.

6. Improved Color Sensitivity

The color model has been rebuilt to better communicate pressure intensity.

Bullish pressure can now progress from yellow into orange and deep orange. Bearish pressure can progress from gray into purple and magenta. Users can also choose whether colors are based on the true score or the enhanced visual score.

7. Updated Table

The table has been rebuilt for the new DSV structure.

It now shows:

* Score
* Buy/sell percentage
* Bull volume
* Bear volume

The table also uses improved contrast logic so neutral and gray cells remain easier to read.

8. Legacy Overlay Mode

The older raw-volume overlay style is still available as **Legacy Overlay** mode.

This keeps the classic visual behavior for users who prefer the original stacked histogram presentation.

9. Legacy 2nd-Pass Multiplier Lines

The original 2nd-pass multiplier logic has been ported into Legacy Overlay mode.

These optional lines help identify exceptional smoothed volume events using the older second-pass threshold concept. The 2nd-pass plots are now limited by Last N Bars by default to keep the visual focused.

10. S8 / S13 Black Tracers

Legacy Overlay mode now includes optional black tracer lines for the shorter smoothing lengths. These make it easier to see where S8 and S13 are positioned when they are visually hidden behind larger S89 or S144 columns.

11. Relative Volume Marker Improvements

Relative-volume spike markers have been refined.

Marker direction can now be based on:

* Chart candle direction
* Lower-timeframe pressure direction
* DSV Composite direction

The default uses chart candle direction so the marker placement better matches what users visually see on the price chart.

Why This Update Matters

This rebuild keeps the core idea of Dominant Smoothed Volume Pro intact: identifying whether buy or sell volume pressure is dominant after smoothing and normalization.

The difference is that the information is now presented in a cleaner structure:

* DSV Composite shows the overall pressure read.
* Smoothing lanes show how each smoothing length is behaving.
* The table provides the numerical confirmation.
* Legacy Overlay preserves the classic style for users who want it.

The result is a more readable, more flexible, and more modern version of the original script.
