News: Bitcoin Recovery Falters After Rise Near 'Hurdle'

Bitcoin's move higher Monday was met with stern resistance, turning the popular crypto negative amid a lack of positive catalysts to reignite meaningful demand.
Bitcoin fell 2.84% to $7,503.6 on the Bitfinex exchange after testing a session high of $7,764. Bitcoin's move higher to near $7,800 triggered resistance as it was a price level identified last week as the "next hurdle" in the popular crypto's recovery after it rebounded from a tumble close to $7,500.

Robert Sluymer, head of technical strategy at Fundstrat Global Advisors Sluymer said last week bitcoin would have to sustain a rally above its next “hurdle” around the $7,800 price level, to validate the next phase of its recovery.

The waning demand for the popular crypto was characterised by its dwindling popularity on the internet as searches for the term "bitcoin" have dropped more than 75% since the beginning of this year, according to research from Google Trends. This was cited as a bad omen for bitcoin enthusiasts as the volume of searches for "bitcoin," is often viewed as a "proxy for potential new buyers," said Nicholas Colas, co-founder of DataTrek Research.
Colas added that he "was not a fan of buying bitcoin at current [price] levels".
The total market cap of cryptocurrencies totalled about $337 billion, at the time of writing, to remain above last week's $329 billion. Ripple XRP fell 2.25% to $0.64805 on the Poloniex exchange, while Ethereum fell 4.37% to $591.02.

Bitcoin fell Wednesday despite a report that Fidelity, one the biggest Wall Street firms, was eyeing a move into the crypto space and plans to create products that would push the market for bitcoin to the "next level."
Bitcoin fell 1.43% to $7,522.0 on the Bitfinex exchange.
Wealth manager Fidelity is planning to create a suite of products that would push the market for bitcoin to the next level, Business Insider reported.
Fidelity's push in to crypto space has been a long time coming as the wealth manager already permits certain clients to view their crypto holdings alongside their other accounts in their Fidelity portfolio.
Business insider said, citing a job ad, that Fidelity was also working on custody solutions for cryptos, providing services to protect large amounts of wealth for other institutions.
While some argue that the participation of large Wall Street institutions is needed to legitimise the crypto space, raising demand for cryptos, recent data has proved the contrary.
The launch of bitcoin futures exchanges last year, paved the way for institutional investors to get in on the crypto action, but they opted to take bearish bets on bitcoin, pressuring it to fall from its peak $20,000.
“Similarly, the advent of blockchain introduced a new financial instrument, Bitcoin, which optimistic investors bid up, until the launch of Bitcoin futures allowed pessimists to enter the market, which contributed to the reversal of the Bitcoin price dynamics,” wrote the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco last month.
Demand for cryptos remained subdued as the total market cap of cryptocurrencies fell to about $339 billion, at the time of writing, from $344 billion Tuesday.
Ripple XRP fell 2.16% to $0.65906 on the Poloniex exchange, while Ethereum fell 1.89% to $597.36.

BTC: Kursverlauf deutet ein "rounding top" seit den letzten highs bei 7,7k an (investopedia.com/terms/r/roundingtop.asp). Über das Wochenende sollten Spikes zu sehen sein, die ein weiteres langsames erodieren der Kurse (siehe eingezeichnete Linie) verhindern. Es dürfte unwarscheinlich sein, dass trader und hodler nach dem letzten Wochenende (Pump) an diesem Wochenende kaufen, um dann ab Montag das Risiko einzugehen, wieder Verluste verbuchen zu müssen.
