I was curious how much the NASDAQ has out performed the S&P 500. I knew it was a lot, but wow there is a big difference.
If you look at it over the really long term, then it is clear that once tech got rolling in the 90's it has come to be the main driver of the S&P 500. However, the S&P 500 has gained a fraction of the value as the NASDAQ. An investment in the NASDAQ in 1991 would have returned 6000% (a $1000 investment would be worth $60,000). The S&P only at 1000%. I wonder what the next 30 years will hold.
Even after the dot com bubble popped, the NASDAQ outperformed the S&P.
The last time the S&P "outperformed" the NASDAQ was July 1991.

Since the March low. S&P actually did well at the beginning, but starting in June the NASDQ just pulled away.
