Toncoin is a decentralized layer1 blockchain developed in 2018 by the encrypted messaging platform Telegram. The project was then abandoned, taken over by the TON Foundation, and renamed from "Telegram Open Network" to "The Open Network". The original idea was to integrate TON into an easy-to-use application that allows users to buy/send/store funds. Clients pay transaction fees and use TON to settle payments or validate transactions. Toncoin utilizes the PoS consensus model for network scalability and reliability.

Telegram users can now buy and sell short recognizable usernames for personal accounts, public groups and channels on fragment website and using TONcoin for doing payments

Telegram has integrated The Open Network-based self-custodial crypto wallet - TON Space, which will be accessible via Telegram settings. Telegram Wallet users already have access to TON Space. Beginning in November, all global Telegram users will be able to access the self-custodial wallet — excluding the U.S. and some other countries.

The TON Space wallet now serves as a new infrastructure layer for the ecosystem. As part of its launch, Telegram will also give priority access for TON projects and partners to its global advertising platform.

In March, the Telegram advertising platform will be officially open to all advertisers in nearly 100 countries. Channel owners will receive 50% of the share. Payment will use the TON blockchain, and advertising will be sold through Toncoin and revenue will be shared with channel owners.

TON Foundation [TON] launches 120M community rewards initiative

TON Foundation has launched the first round of The Open League, a Toncoin community rewards initiative. The Open League will distribute 30M (worth around 123M at the current rate) to competing projects and TON ecosystem users starting April 1st. Funds will be distributed via a performance-based competition, simple token mining mechanisms, airdrops and quests, and liquidity pool boosts.

TON Foundation has already distributed 650k to users via liquidity pool boosts as part of the pilot, with projects winning the pilot competition on March 31st set to share 550k TON. Current price is $4.1. Current market cap is 14.3B. Current FDV is 21B.

Two former TON Foundation members, Ian Wittkopp and Inal Kardan, have launched the TON Ventures fund. A for-profit venture capital firm will invest in startups building on The Open Network. Although the founders declined to name the fund's investors, they are stated to be mainly individual private investors who want to support the long-term growth of the TON ecosystem.
