But what if the fiat bullshit of the last 50 years was just a prank? What if they did it just for so long as they could get away with it? And now will try to adapt now the cat is out of the bag of how bad fiat is?
Well if they wanted to return to a gold standard how would they do that? I think they would first need to get a lot of the dollar denominated debt liquidated, because at present the amount of debt available is practically infinite, but it will not be infinite on a gold standard so they need to fix this dispairty first. And in order to do that they can aggresively raisee rates. Which they are.
The amount of circulating dollars would also need to be significantly reduced so that you can peg the dollar at prices much lower than where your adversaries bought in. It turns out that central banks (except the fed?) have bought the most gold on record in 2022.
If the dollar repegs itself to gold, it may not last that long. But they might have to do it and then use the ensuing potential chaos as an excuse to do what they actually want.
