After a significant slide to start the week, oil prices rose more than 2% on Tuesday, rebounding from recent losses on signs of rising fuel demand in the United States despite a surge in COVID-19 cases. Since it is challenging to anticipate policymakers’ reaction functions to the spread of the Delta variant, predicting short-term moves in the oil markets has become a bit of a mug’s game.
To be sure, China has been very successful thus far in achieving an immediate zero-Covid environment. But policymakers may not replicate the earlier total lockdown because of difficulty in containing the more contagious Delta variant and potentially more risk-tolerance given higher vaccine coverage levels.
China may not stick with a zero-tolerance Covid approach which would be less harmful to global growth and oil demand.
On the broader landscape, Commodities may be deriving support from The US Senate completing its work by passing a $3.5 trillion budget resolution that will serve as a prerequisite for a broad spending and tax bill this fall.

Germany’s Zew Index slumped, with the sentiment index coming in at 40.4 points for August versus 63.3 in July and well short of the 56.7 expected in a Reuters poll.
What we can expect today:
A drop in economic sentiment in Europe, with German ZEW falling for the third consecutive month, continued to weigh the EUR.
It still feels like a test of 1.1700 is on the cards.
A very dovish ECB on the back of the Fed hawkish turn may keep the EURUSD vulnerable.

What we can expect today:
Further taper talk from Fed speakers has added wind to the dollar sails following the stronger US jobs data.
However, the real action on the pound is occurring on EURGBP as the Sterling rose to a new 18 months high overnight as FX traders continue to shift to and fro to the beat of Central Bank differentials. At this stage of the global recovery cycle, the Bank of England is perceived as more hawkish than the very dovish ECB, making short EURGBP the best game in town to hold a bullish GBP view.

What we can expect today:
For G-10 FX markets, it seems like Delta variant risk is getting put on the back burner as traders correctly turn focus to rising US yields.
EURCHF is back above 1.0800, helped by the tone in USDCHF. The next levels to watch after are the previous tops from July, coming in at 0.9230( sitting just below this morning) and 0.9375. It will be important for EURCHF to establish itself above 1.08 to grind towards the upper end of the recent trading range at 1.0870.
