Remember when Netflix (NFLX) sent out DVDs? Now they're so big they're making their own movies, and joining the list of some of the biggest production companies in the world. But movie-making is a tough gig: for every Titanic there's a Waterworld, for every Lord of the Rings there's a Mars Needs Moms (seriously, why).

We've put together a list of some of the biggest listed US movie production companies – or companies that have subsidiaries that produce movies, or have a production house like Amazon (AMZN) – with a market cap of over 3bn, but make sure you do your own research and don't end up with a flop.
